Spring Plumbing Smarts

Here is all you need to know about your plumbing and what you can do at home to keep from having a disaster set in. If a plumbing catastrophe does happen, Orsack Plumbing Company has prepared this quick guide to make sure that you know how to control some of the plumbing adjustments needed in your home or office. There are many plumbing problems that need to have immediate attention (call us for emergency plumbing service), but there are some things that you can do to lessen the problem.

Water Shut Off

Make sure that you know how to shut the water off to your home. There is usually a meter which is where the amount of water used it tracked. It is also where you can find a valve that can stop the flow of water to your home in case of a large leak. This is also where you stop the water if you are doing any at home repairs that need the flow of water stopped.

Water Heater

There are lots of plumbing disasters each year that have to do with a water heater that stops functioning and will begin to flood the area. Make sure that you have the water heater checked and that you know how to stop the water to the water heater in case of an emergency.

Water Pressure

There is a meter that keeps track of the amount of pressure that is being sent to your home or office. It is a good idea to make sure that you know what your pressure is at and what the amount of pressure is supposed to be. The usual amount of pressure that is going into a home or office should be about 80psi.

Water usage

There are not too many things that can make your water usage go up. Making sure that you watch your bill and see what amount you use each month can help you see if you have a leak that may not be in plain sight. If water is leaking in the yard or under the house it can often go unseen for several weeks, without manifesting in puddles or leaks. The best way to check is to see if there is a jump in the water usage in that particular month.

HVAC Condensation

There are lines that run from the roof of your home that send condensation from the HVAC unit out through the condensation line. The condensation line should not be leaking any water and if it is there may be a blockage in the line that needs repair. This can keep the condensation from leaking into the home or into the unit and causing damage.
