Fun & Interesting Random Facts About Toilets; Frequency, Statistics & Flushes!

Toilets are a part of everyday life and we are all familiar with sitting on a toilet to take care of business so to speak. Toilets are a luxury that most of us have never lived without, especially in the United States, where we are accustomed to some of the most comfortable toilets that are available. While bathroom humor is a fun and popular form of comedy, very few people are familiar with some of the more interesting random facts about toilets. Even the most common and overlooked necessities have fun tit bits associated with them. Toilets are included in this group and you will probably be somewhat surprised about what you learn.

Toilet Frequency

One interesting fact to start with is the amount of time that we spend on the toilet. If you were asked how many times you used the rest room yesterday, you probably wouldn’t remember. The average person will spend three years of their lifetime sitting on the toilet. Three years seems like quite a significant amount of time to be dwindled away sitting on the porcelain throne. However when you consider that the average person visits the toilet six to eight times a day, that time can quickly add up.

Toilet Statistics

There are a great deal of statistics out there that will tell you your chances of getting bit by a shark, being in a car crash and hitting the lottery etc. Well here is another statistic for you; you have a one in ten thousand chance of being injured by a toilet. That percentage may or may not be in your favor when you consider how many times you yourself visit the toilet each day, so watch your step just in case.

Who Invented the First Flushable Toilet

The inventor of the toilet is commonly thought to be a man named Thomas Crapper, however this is not true. A man by the name of Arthur Giblin invented the first effective flushable toilet; he was an employee of Crapper’s and sold his patent to Crapper. So rather than saying things like, “what a crapper”, we should really be saying something more along the lines of, “you are full of Giblin!”

Toilet Flushes

When compared to the other appliances in your house, the toilet by far uses the most water. People spend roughly a nickel a day flushing their toilets. One of the more expensive days for flushing toilets is the Super Bowl; more toilets flush during halftime of the Super Bowl than any other time of the year. A third of people will flush their toilet while still sitting on it; yikes, watch out for the back splash.
