Dishwasher Not Filling with Water in Egypt, TX; Kinked Drain Hose, Stuck Float, Door Switch & More

The dishwasher is one of the best, and most common, modernized appliance in our kitchen. It can wash and dry a load of dishes, even for larger families, with little time and effort on your part. With the conveniences of this wonderful tool in our lives, homeowners can focus on other tasks or spend more time with people we care. It can be more than just an annoyance when the dishwasher is not working up to par, however. The water not filling the dishwasher is a common issue and today, we at M and C Orsack Plumbing would like to take the opportunity to explore reasons why.

How Does a Dishwasher Work?

Before adding the detergent accordingly, people will strategically place rinsed off dishes in the dishwasher. The dishwasher does all the heavy lifting from there once you set it to the wash cycle, and turn it on. With the proper temperatures the water added is heated once the dishwasher is starter. The water shoots from the jets to get the dishes clean and sanitized after it is properly activated, the dishwasher will dispense the detergent. The dishwasher will spray the dishes down again for a final rinse following the draining of the filthy water. To ensure the dishwasher’s efficiency and overall performance, there are several sensors that are designed to detect the water levels. People do not even realize their dishwashers are not even filling with water more often than not.

Why is Dishwasher Not Filling with Enough Water?

As to why the water is not filling the dishwasher, a few of the most common issues are listed below.
1) Kinked Dishwasher Drain Hose. With hoses attached to it, there is a kick-plate panel inside the dishwasher. In the event these hoses are kinked or damaged, the water cannot reach the dishwasher. Make sure they are not kinked and undamaged as you inspect the hoses. Any kinks can be replacing any damaged hoses and straighten.
2) Stuck Dishwasher Float. There is component known as the float and its purpose is to recognize when enough water has filled inside the dishwasher and then stopping water flow inside the dishwasher. Should the float get stuck at its pre-set level, the water won’t flow into the dishwasher. Should the float get stuck from debris causing it stick or prevents it from lowering, or if the float switch doesn’t respond and needs replacing need to be considered.
3) Malfunctioning Dishwasher Door Switch. No matter if the door is closed when the dishwasher’s door switch fails to operate properly, water will not fill if the sensor cannot detect. For any signs of damage as well as the prong inside the tub, visually inspect the switch. Call a professional plumber if the switch is in good condition, you will have to test if it is working with a multi-meter.
