The plumbing in your home is a very sophisticated series of fixtures, appliance and piping that lead to a county or state wide sewer system. The fixtures and appliances will include your sinks, toilets, washer, dishwasher, water heater and much more. There are different types of lines that come in and out of your home. They send water and also send waste through other lines into the sewer. When you choose to take on some of the plumbing repairs on your own you may be making some mistakes that could cost you money.
Orsack Plumbing Company has prepared a few plumbing mistakes to keep away from
Grease Down the Drain: When you are done cooking bacon, or browning some hamburger meat you may think that it is no big deal to just send the grease down the sink. This is a terrible idea and actually causes damage to the pipes. The grease will go down the drain and it will get caught in the pipes. When the grease settles it will start to harden and stop moving all the way through the pipes. Then when other debris is washed down the sink it will stick to the grease that has started to build up. The grease will cause the drain to stop draining properly and can slow it down quite a bit. It is hard to remove the grease once it starts to build up and usually requires a professional plumber to snake and clean the drain and pipes out.
Turn Off Water: When you are deciding to take on a repair that seems minor you want to be sure to turn off the water. You can decide if turning the water off to that specific appliance is okay or if you need to take it a step further and turn off the water to the house. Be sure that all the people that are in the house know that you have turned off the water so that they do not try to flush the toilets. The water has to be turned off so that if an error in the repair happens you don’t start to flood the house. The amount of water that will start to leak can flood very quickly.
